ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, urged Christian members of the national assembly to resist the temptation of talking about the social and economic problems affecting the country in negative terms. He made this call in Abuja while addressing lawmakers present at the 7th National Prayer Breakfast organized by the Parliamentary Fellowship Group.
Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, told the lawmakers to strive to build-up and talk about the present social and economic situations of the country in positive terms so as to avoid transmitting a sense of failure and hopelessness to members of their constituencies.
President Buhari
“I say this because almost every speech today in Nigeria is a negative speech both in churches and in the public domain. It is always about how hard living in Nigeria is.
“So as leaders, we must strive to talk about our circumstances in positive terms and resist the urge to transmit to our people a sense of failure and despondency.
“Today leaders have forgotten about looking at the positive side of issues and opportunities the current situation presents for good.
“For me, I have unflinching faith that Nigeria will emerge from this crisis strong, united, prosperous, and secured in the lifetime of this government. We should acknowledge the times we are living in and interpret realities with a sense of history and understanding.”
Similarly, the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Sup Ayokunle, in his goodwill message, urged the lawmakers as ambassadors of the Christ, to be carriers of good news who will always stand up for what is good and right in the eyes of God and in the interest of the people they lead.
