How Nigerian government is tackling unemployment problem – Osinbajo

Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday informed Nigerians that the Federal Government would address the nation’s unemployment problem.                 Osinbajo disclosed this during a town hall meeting with youth groups, traders, and other stakeholders in business, agriculture and information and communication technology, as part of his two-day visit to Benin, the Edo State capital. According to him, the government was committed to supporting small businesses, through funding and expert advice from its agencies, to micro, small and medium-scale enterprises. He emphasised that the social investment programme of the Federal Government was important to President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that 200,000 beneficiaries had been recorded while the number would be increased to 300,000 by the end of June. The mother of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has given what appears to be her first media interview. Falmata Abubakar spoke with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America, VOA, in the village of Shekau, Yobe state.                In a report published Thursday, VOA said elders and leader of the village took its team to the woman. The report also said Mr Shekau’s late father was the Imam of the village Mosque before his death. Ms Abubakar said she had no idea where her son was or his situation. “I don’t know whether he is dead or alive, only God knows, I have not seen him in the last 15 years,” she said. Residents of the village said they always hid the identity of their village for fear of being associated with the Boko Haram leader.                The Nigerian police force has arrested five more suspects in the Offa Bank robbery incident. Men of the Inspector General Of police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested five more suspects in connection with the Offa bank robbery of April 5, where over 33, persons including police officers, were killed. The five suspects were arrested within the week after the IRT stormed the south-western part of the country. The IRT team moved to Kawara state last week with one of the major suspects, a dismissed police officer, Micheal Adikwu. Adikwu, who also trained the gang members on how to shoot and use firearms personally confessed to shooting and killing 22 Persons mostly Police personnel at the Station during the robbery. Dane accused of killing Nigerian wife, daughter remanded in prison till October

Peter Nielsen, the Danish man who allegedly killed his wife and daughter is to remain in prison custody until his trial begins in October.               A Lagos High Court sitting in the Igbosere gave the order on Thursday following Mr Nielsen’s arraignment by the Lagos State Government, Channels Television reports. The suspect appeared before Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile on two counts of murder, an offence contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos, Adeniji Kazeem, led the state prosecution team at the proceedings. Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued commendation of late military dictator, Sani Abacha.                             Soyinka, who was speaking in Abuja on Wednesday at the national honours investiture for heroes of democracy., said that although he understood Buhari’s official loyalty to Abacha, it shouldn’t take preeminence over the preservation of democracy “Dear Mr. President, you cannot honour Abiola in one breath and admire his tormentor in the same breath,” he said. Soyinka added that while the heroes of democracy were being recognized, the anti-democrats deserved some mention too. “So, as we have the Hall of Heroes in one hand, we also have the Hall of Shame as a lesson to future generations,” he said.
