APC primaries: Gov. Yari dares Oshiomhole, calls supporters out for protest

Gusau – Gov. Abdul’aziz of Zamfara, on Friday called out his supporters for a peaceful protest over the decision of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cancel the party’s governorship primaries held on Wednesday.  Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari  “I am calling on all our members to come out and storm the state Police Headquarters tomorrow (Saturday) by 10 am for peaceful protest. “We will continue with this decision until the national leadership of our party do what is right on this matter,” he said at a press conference in Gusau.  The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor is having running battle with eight governorship aspirants in the state over the conduct of direct primaries. The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Friday reacted to the action of policemen, who disrupted a peaceful protest by chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Friday. Speaking with Evritinnaija, an aide to Saraki, Olu Onemola, disclosed that the police personnel shot light weapons and tear-gassed the PDP leaders. Presidential primary: Poll adjudged Atiku best candidate to defeat Buhari  Former vice president of Nigeria and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has been adjudged as the best candidate to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election. In an online Twitter poll conducted by @PDP_RIVERS, Atiku Abubakar, trounced Senate President Bukola Saraki, governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal and former governor of Kano state Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. At the end of voting on Thursday, October 4, Atiku polled 48% of the total votes cast followed by Saraki with 37%, Kwankwaso 11% and Tambuwal 4%.  evritinnaija gathered that 41,734 persons voted in the 6-day poll which commenced on Saturday, September 29 . The All Progressives Congress (APC) said it is working on setting up electoral panels for the conduct of governorship primaries in Imo State and Zamfara State. The national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, said this at his campaign office in Abuja on Friday. The Imo State primaries were suspended indefinitely by the party following the controversy that surrounded the process and the committee in charge of the election. Seven governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC)   met with the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday to discuss the crisis over primaries in some states. The APC governors met with President Buhari earlier in the day, but he reportedly directed them to meet with Oshiomhole. The seven governors present at the meeting with Oshiomhole were Rochas Okorocha (Imo State), Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi) and Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo). The others are Simon Lalong (Plateau), Tanko Al-makura (Nasarawa), Abdul-aziz Yari (Zamfara) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun).
