Accidents: Ogun loses 307 lives

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, on Thursday, said that 307 people died in 428 road traffic crashes recorded in the state in 2015. Oladele spoke during a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Ogun House of Assembly, Mr Suraj Adekunbi, at the assembly complex in Abeokuta. The sector commander said that the 428 road crashes in 2015 represented five per cent of all crashes that happened in the country. He said that 32 road traffic crashes were recorded in August 2016, and by September, the figure rose to 47. Oladele explained that most of the accidents were due to excessive speed which could have been avoided. “The FRSC management introduced compulsory use of speed limiter to reduce accidents, but majority of the people are yet to use this device,” he said. Oladele, who said that the reason for the visit was to collaborate with the state house of assembly on road safety, urged the lawmakers to enlighten the people in their constituencies.

Herdsmen’s threat: Fayose asks Ekiti people to be ready for ‘war’
