#DapchiGirls: I Warned Buhari To Stop Paying Boko Haram Terrorists By Perry Brimah

Image
In my article May last year, captioned " Dear FGN: No Responsible Nation Ever Paid And Freed Terror Masterminds Within Its Borders ," in rebuke of the Buhari government and its defense of its actions in reportedly paying Boko Haram terrorists millions of dollars and freeing the deadly group's terror masterminds in exchange for some Chibok girls, I wrote, and I quote: "If the US ever dared pay and free terror masterminds on US soil, you can expect not just a massive class-action lawsuit from the public, but also immediate Senate impeachment of the US president. And you can take that sentence to the bank. I feel sorry that I have to write to point this out. I had earlier written an article explaining why just like I repeatedly advised and warned former President Goodluck Jonathan, it is likewise wrong, treacherous and a violation of Nigeria’s anti-terror bill and the laws of God, for Nigeria to pay and free terrorists with blood and/or rape on their hands. Ohanaeze Ndigbo:Called on all Igbo-speaking states to reject the proposed cattle colonies in the country.

Image
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Friday, March 2, 2018, called on all Igbo-speaking states to reject the proposed cattle colonies in the country. Rising from its National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting, Ohanaeze Ndigbo also urged governments of Igbo-speaking states to pass the anti-grazing laws to protect the people from further killings and harassment by marauding herdsmen. A statement from the organisation by its President General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, rejected the idea of colony, which it said would amount to forced territorial occupation. Ohanaeze said that the population density per square kilometre in Igboland was very high and that many Igbo families were finding it difficult to get land to build their homes and farm. It remarked that the concept of colony was alien to Ndigbo and was therefore unacceptable to the people. The organisation observed that Fulani herdsmen had co-existed with their Igbo host communities peacefully until recently

2019: Ex-military generals can stop Buhari’s second term bid – Yakassai

Image
The Chairman of Northern Elders’ Council (NEC), Tanko Yakassai, has reacted to the speculation that some retired Generals are plotting to prevent President Muhammadu Buhari from a second term in office. According to him, though ex-military generals, especially former President Olusegun Obasanjo did not take the country to the promise land, they nevertheless control the destiny of most Nigerians, and were played key roles in determining who governed the nation. While acknowledging that Obasanjo spoke the mind of many Nigerians in his special statement urging Buhari not to seek re-election, Yakassai vowed to stand by it. He told Newtelegraph Newspaper: “When elections are around the corner, all sorts of things would be happening. This is democracy, people have the rights to get together and offer their views one way or the other. You cannot quarrel with people doing that, this is the freedom that democracy offers. Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, all these sorts of things

Can You Really Get Pregnant While On Your Period?

Image
Period sex is pretty much NBD these days. Some people love the extra lubrication, while others figure it’s a good excuse to skip the condom for once. (You know, provided you’ve DTR’d and such.) But is the latter really a thing? Or is the idea that you can’t get pregnant on your period total B.S.? Short answer: It’s unlikely that you’d get knocked up from having sex on your period—but not impossible. “Technically you can only get pregnant when you’re ovulating, which is a 48-hour window each month and should not be happening when you’re menstruating,” says Dr Taraneh Shirazian, an gynae with NYU Langone. Unless you’re taking birth control or have an IUD, which both prevent ovulation from ever occurring, ovulation typical occurs about two weeks prior to menstruation, somewhere between day 11 and 21 of your cycle—although day 14 is the average, Shirazian says. (Note: the first day of your period is day one.) The Fine, Red Lining But, of course, it’s not that simple: Sperm has th

7 Warning signs of stroke that you should never ignore

Image
Each year more than 100,000 women under the age of 65 will have a stroke, according to the American Heart Association. But if you were one of those women, would you be able to recognize the symptoms? "In the stroke field, they say 'time is brain,'" says Andrew Stemer, M.D., director of the stroke program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Meaning the longer you wait to seek treatment after experiencing stroke symptoms, the more time there is for permanent damage to occur. Your best defense is to catch the symptoms early and get to an ER stat. "If there's any sudden onset of a new neurological symptom that affects one side of the body, then I would go to the emergency room right away," says Stemer. "It may be a migraine or something else that's benign, but the problem is, if you don't go in, then you'll have missed your opportunity to really treat the stroke." Here, seven stroke symptoms in women that deserve immediat

Benue State Government speaks on Boko Haram kingpin heading its security outfit

Image
The Benue State Government has reacted to report of a former Boko Haram kingpin heading the state’s security agency ‘the Livestock Guard’. Report emerged during the week that a former Boko Haram suspect, who was arrested and detained by the police seven years ago, and later escaped, Alhaji Ali Teshaku, is currently heading the security outfit in the state. According to Sun, the same man is today the head of Benue State local security agency, the Livestock Guards. Benue State livestock Guards is an outfit created by the state government following the enactment of its anti-open grazing law. Reacting to the report, a Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, debunked the allegation. He told the newspaper, “This matter you are pursuing is not necessary at this time. “After all, we inherited him from the previous government and the man has been granted amnesty. “This is a security issue, but if you want further explanation, you can come over a

As Okorocha’s Imo swells with anger over nepotism

Image
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has constantly faced allegations of nepotism and cronyism, but his recent decision to support his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him in office in 2019 is considered by many residents as the last straw, GBENRO ADEOYE writes Since Rochas Okorocha first took office as governor of Imo State in 2011, followed by his reelection in 2015, it must have been a roller coaster ride for the state. The governor did not waste time to announce himself as controversial as shortly after his inauguration, he appointed sultry actress, Nkiru Sylvanus, as his Special Assistant on Lagos Affairs and comedian, Uche Ogbuagu, as his Special Assistant on Comedy. Some of his activities since then have made some Nigerians, including indigenes of Imo State, to describe his government as full of drama and sometimes, comedic moments. And if anyone was still in doubt that Okorocha was controversial, his brazen decision to erect statues for world leaders, including one

Chibok girls: Jonathan speaks on abduction, blasts APC govt, Lai Mohammed

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has rubbished a statement credited to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed that his administration delayed in responding to the abduction of Chibok girls. Mohammed, while speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the Editors’ plaza championed by the Nigerian Guild of Editors, said, “Now, don’t compare orange with apple. When Chibok girls were kidnapped, it took the PDP government 18 full days to admit that the girls were kidnapped. This time we swung into action within 24 hours.” Reacting to the statement, Jonathan told Mohammed to respect his age and stop lying to Nigerians. In a statement signed on his behalf by his former aide, Reno Omokri, Jonathan described as lies report that his government took 18 days to admit that the Chibok Girls were kidnapped. The statement sent to DAILY POST reads, “My attention has been drawn to fallacious comments made by the notoriously dishonest Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Moha

Atiku reacts to views that ‘restructuring meant to punish North

Image
Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, on Thursday spoke on opinions in some quarters that restructuring was a plot against the Northern part of Nigeria. The Waziri of Adamawa addressed the issue yesterday at the public presentation of a book in Lagos. In his speech titled: “Critical Ingredient but no Magic Wand: Restructuring for a more united, productive Nigeria”, Atiku said those who think restructuring was purely for political reasons missed the point. He said: “Our current structure, which is based on oil rents, is vulnerable because oil has probably reached its peak as the chief energy source for the world economy. “You probably know that the world’s major automobile manufacturers and oil consumers have announced dates between 2025 and 2040 to end the manufacture and sale of fossil fuel-only vehicles. “And massive investments in renewable energy around the world have been pushing its cost down that it has become very competitive with oil and gas. The drive towards ren

Jama’atu Nasril: Demanded that the federal government identify and punish those on whose watch the Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists.

Image
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) yesterday demanded that the federal government identify and punish those on whose watch the Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists.  The JNI also urged the federal government to do everything possible to immediately rescue all the abducted schoolgirls and others in the captivity of Boko Haram. LEADERSHIP Friday recalls that 110 students of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, were kidnapped penultimate Monday evening from their dormitory, with their location and condition as yet unknown by Nigerian authorities. A statement by the group’s secretary general, Dr Khalid Aliyu, said the circumstances of the abduction raised serious concern about the genuineness of some security agents in the fight against insurgency. The Islamic organisation condemned the buck passing between the police and the military over the abduction, saying it was an indication that something was seriously wrong. The JNI, therefore,

Image
Benjamin Apugo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC, Board of Trustees, BoT, from Abia State, has told national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu what to do if he must succeed in reconciling aggrieved members of the party. Speaking with Daily Sun, Apugo also blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for giving appointments to members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, instead of empowering his only party members. He said further that Tinubu must involve members of the new PDP, adding that it was actually members of the opposition party that helped the ruling party win the last election. He said, “Abia was predominately PDP, no other party had foothold in the state. “So, if it were 10, 000 votes that Buhari got in the last election; it was former PDP members that believed in us that made it possible. I’m saying this for the president to read. “You shouldn’t sidetrack the New PDP; it is only Chibuike Amaechi who is from that group that is presently in government. “Recog

Fulfil your promises to Nigerians – APC tells Buhari

Image

He noted that APC “remains the best ideological vehicle to rapidly transform our polity and our country into one that works and one in which the lives of all peoples matter”. The chieftain commended Buhari for setting up a reconciliation committee led by a national leader, Bola Tinubu, stressing that the move would ensure unity and peace within the party across the country. “APC needs to be in harmony with itself in order to attract the best minds from within its rank f

General Ibrahim Babangida: Nigerians must come together, irrespective of political or ethnicaffiliations to frontally confront the issues that challenge the unity of the country.

Image
Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd), has affirmed that Nigerians must come together, irrespective of political or ethnic affiliations to frontally confront the issues that challenge the unity of the country. He spoke at the launch of a book, “In the belly of vultures,” written by veteran journalist and erstwhile Managing Director of Daily Times of Nigeria, Tola Adeniyi in Lagos yesterday. General Babangida, in his remarks, added that a united Nigeria would afford everyone the opportunity to discuss challenges and possible solutions to the country’s problems. The former Head of State, who was represented by ex-Minister of Communications, Major-General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retd), said: “All Nigerians must not lose the ability to discuss national issues calmly and respectfully regardless of party affiliations and other differences.” “We must come together as a unified entity to solve our collective problems. BBOG, advocacy group has lamented that Nigeria’s economy is “getting progressively worse.”

Image
Aisha Yesufu, co-converner of BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, advocacy group has lamented that Nigeria’s economy is “getting progressively worse.” Yesufu made the remark while faulting claims of those saying the economy is working. In a tweet, she wrote: “All those who say economy is working please can I send some of the request I get from people to you? “Honestly I am tired and weighed down by the flood of requests. I can’t cope anymore. “It’s getting progressively worse. Am I the only one feeling this way?” This is coming at a time when the International Monetary Fund, IMF, said more Nigerians had gotten poorer under the President Muhammadu Buhari government despite the country’s slow recovery from recession. In a report, the IMF said Nigeria needs urgent economic reforms. It identified risks to growth, including additional delays to implementing policies and reforms ahead of the 2019 elections, security tensions, and oil prices, as part of the challenges facing the country.

Fani-Kayode, writing on his Twitter page, claimed President Muhammadu Buhari hated free speech and wanted Nigeria to be like North Korea. “Now they want to pass a law that prescribes the death penalty for calling a demon a demon. “They call it “hate speech” because they “hate it” when we call a spade a spade, tell them what they are and expose their barbarity.Buhari wants Nig. to be like N. Dapchi school attack: Sultan of Sokoto-led group attacks Buhari, security agencies

Image
The Jama ’atu Nasril Islam, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa ’ad Abubakar III, has attacked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government and security agencies for the handling of the abduction of 110 Dapchi school girls. The school was attacked on February 19, 2018 , while the whereabouts of 110 pupils were yet to be accounted for. According to the group, the abduction of the girls “is the most potent action to frustrate the girl- child education.” “No parent now is comfortable, especially in the North – East, to allow his daughter to go to such callously unprotected schools; and the North is the loser,” the Secretary General of the JNI, Dr Abubakar Khalid – Ailyu said in a statement in Kaduna on Thursday. He pointed out that a serious government would have “ by now sanctioned those implicated in the Dapchi girls’ travails.” The group warned the government against sparing anyone found culpable in the abduction of the Dapchi girls. APC Senator Mocks Fed Govt Over New IMF Report On Poverty In Nigeria

Image
The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has thrown what appears to be a dig at the Federal Government following a new report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that 80 million are living below the poverty line in the country. He recalled the reaction of the government to the latest Transparency International (TI)’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) which showed that Nigeria dropped from 136 in 2016 to 148 in 2017. The Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, had described TI’s report as “misleading and unfair”. “The government is still wondering the criteria or facts used by the anti-corruption watchdog to arrive at its very misleading and unfair conclusions in its assessment of the federal government’s efforts in this anti-corruption crusade,” Shehu said. He added, “We wonder where they got their facts from. At a time, they are alleging increase in corruption unde

More Nigerians getting poorer under Buhari govt – IMF

Image
The International Monetary Fund has said more Nigerians have gotten poorer under the President Muhammadu Buhari government despite the country’s slow recovery from recession. In a report released yesterday, the IMF said Nigeria needs urgent economic reforms. It identified risks to growth, including additional delays to implementing policies and reforms ahead of the 2019 elections, security tensions, and oil prices, a fall in which could see capital flows reversed. The IMF however said that though the outlook for growth had improved, it still remained challenging. The Central Bank of Nigeria frequently injects hundreds of millions of dollars into the foreign exchange market to keep its own rates stable. The IMF further singled out the central bank, saying it should discontinue direct interventions in the economy. The IMF further repeated its call for Nigeria to simplify its complex foreign exchange system which has left large gaps between official rates and various windows th

Latest Northern govs in another council of war in Kaduna

Image
The Northern State Governors’ Forum is holding a meeting in Kaduna to discuss key issues related to the north: security challenges in the region and restructuring. NSGF’s Chairman and Gov. Kashim Shettima said at the opening of the meeting that as elected representatives of the people, the governors must address the crisis bedeviling the region. The Borno governor said it would be of great disservice to the people, if the crisis were politicised or given religious or tribal colorations. “As elected leaders, it is our primary responsibility to take a hard and critical look at these conflicts and come up with implementable ways and means of addressing them squarely. “It is also critically important, as a long term measure, to devise viable strategies to forestall all forms of security challenges that may likely erupt in the future. He emphasized that whatever resolutions we may arrive at, should be without prejudice to the various commendable and comprehensive measures being put i

Biafra: Why we almost killed Igbo leaders in Enugu – IPOB

Image
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday explained why some Igbo leaders were attacked during the Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA) gathering in Enugu State. IPOB said the protest was against the “one Nigeria project,” adding that Igbos have been subjected to apartheid under the current “Fulani Nigeria regime of Muhammadu Buhari.” In a statement signed and sent to DAILY POST by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB insisted that what resulted in the collapse of the event was the “announcement of an award for Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who is seen by all as the sole architect of the monstrous one Nigeria project that have brought untold shame, misery and consumed over 3 Million Biafran lives and still doing so till today.” “The leadership and family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide wish to clarify that events that took place at Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA) gathering in Enugu on Tuesday February, 27 is regrettable and unfortunate under the c

TY Danjuma breaks silence on Nigeria’s governance, corruption

Image
Former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.) says Nigeria lacked the capacity to govern itself. The elder statesman lamented that the country had not fared better since independence in 1960. He said this in Lagos yesterday at the 42nd CVL Leader Without Title (LWT); Leadership Tribute Colloquium at his 80th birthday. Danjuma, who lamented impunity in the country’s public service, said the decay set in after the nation’s independence. “I remember that in the mid-1980s during the second Republic, the late Governor Sam Mbakwe of Imo State one day while lamenting the excesses of his opponents, stated that British colonial rule was too brief for Nigerians to learn the art and science of governance”, Guardian quoted him as saying. “I disagreed with that assertion because all the institutions of government that the British colonial administration left behind in 1960 functioned very effectively. “The rot began to set in only after our independence with the rapid ‘

Enugu attack on igbo Elders.. Ohanaeze Youths calls for calm as Revolution looms in South east , support Gov Ugwuanyi

Image
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has descended on the convener of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, Evang. Eliot Ugochukwu-Uko over the botched summit organized by the group in Enugu on Tuesday. Things went sour at the event when one of the Igbo elders, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi started talking about the need to restructure Nigeria. Feeling disappointed, Biafra agitators, who were invited to the event in their numbers, began to interrupt him, saying that they did not want to hear anything about Nigeria. Hell was let loose when Ugochukwu- Ukor announced that it was time to give a post-humous award to Dr. Azikiwe for his contributions towards national development. As soon as Zik’s name was mentioned, the Biafran agitators rose in condemnation of Zik’s efforts to keep the country united, just as they blamed the late nationalist for the current travails of the Igbo in the country. As the crowd became restive, Ugochukwu-Uko threatened to deal with any trouble maker in

It can happen multiple times throughout the night. The snoring might not only disturb someone sleeping next to you, but can also cause you to feel fatigued when you wake up.  3.       Belly fat is bad for your lungs A 2009 study published in the American Journal
