Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has commended the U.S for imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Nigeria. Abubakar made the commendation in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, on Wednesday in Abuja. The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the February election, commended the U.S for standing with the Nigerian people against undemocratic forces. He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, saying that the efforts of those that fought for true democracy would not be in vain. “It seems that day has come. After many months of living in denial, the Buhari regime is now faced with the truth in the form of a US visa ban on politicians who undermined Nigeria’s democracy,” Atiku said. “Speaking on the ban, the US State Department in a statement by its spokesman, Morgan Ortagus on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, stated that ‘we condemn those whose acts of violence, intimidation,

El-Zakzaky: Reno Omokri Writes Open Letter To Buhari

Image
Reno Omokri has penned an open letter to President Buhari, asking that he releases detained leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. According to Reno, if repentant Boko Haram members can be forgiven and released, same can be done for the El Zazaky. Dear General Buhari, “You have been killing Shiites, and it has not worked. You have been beating them and they are even more determined. Not everybody is AFRAID of DEATH. If one strategy does not work, then try another. If you can free REPENTANT BOKO HARAM, you can also #FreeZakZaky. The man is more DANGEROUS in prison than he is outside. Learn from the cases of Nnamdi Kanu. When you arrest a leader with a FANATICAL following, you achieve 2 things. You make the followers more ERRATIC. And you make the leader appear more CHARISMATIC. It is better to DIFFUSE a BOMB than to EXPLODE it. That is how they arrested Naira Marley, now our children are dancing that dirty SOAPY” We bring the news to you as it comes....

Ministerial screening: Senator Abaribe hails Mamora for rejecting Buhari’s appointment A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator from Abia State, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has applauded Olorunnimbe Mamora, a ministerial nominee, for rejecting an initial appointment from President Muhammadu Buhari. Mamora, a former Senator, was among the 10 out of 43 ministerial nominees screened by the Senate on Wednesday. Buhari had earlier appointed him as the chairman of the Abuja Investment and Infrastructure Centre, an appointment, which he rejected in 2018. During the screening, Abaribe said Mamora felt relegated by the appointment earlier offered by Buhari. “We are very glad that finally, they have recognised who you are. You sat on this seat and did very well. And they used local materials to localise you, you didn’t give up. “Senator Mamora is our very good friend and he is my neighbour. We know of situations where senators left here and were offered positions that a senator shouldn’t take and

Ministerial screening: Why Amaechi, Akpabio, 7 others were told to “take a bow The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, told nine ministerial nominees to “take a bow” as screening began. The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, explained that the decision was in line with the long-standing tradition of the legislature, that all former lawmakers nominated for appointments are given an automatic endorsement. The minister-nominees who enjoyed the privilege include: Godswill Akpabio, Gbemisola Saraki, Hadi Sirika, Olorunnimbe Mamora, George Akume, Chris Ngige, Tayo Alasoadura, Emeka Nwajuiba, a serving Reps member and surprisingly, Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation. Unlike other nominees who were former federal lawmakers, Amaechi was only a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. 40,000 more flee Cameroon conflict to Nigeria — UN

The United Nations on Monday said nearly 40,000 more people had been forced to flee to Nigeria by worsening humanitarian situation in north-west and south-west regions of Cameroon. Briefing UN correspondents in New York on Monday, a spokesman of the organisation, Mr Farhan Haq, said 530,000 others had been internally displaced. No fewer than 1.3 million people are now in need of assistance, Haq said, adding that the situation “continues to be characterised by human rights and protection abuses and violations”. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the crisis in the English-speaking regions started in 2016 when separatists launched an armed struggle for a breakaway state they call Ambazonia. Government forces have responded strongly, leading to accusations of extra-judicial killings and burning of villages. But recently, there has been a focus on abuses allegedly committed by the many separatist groups too, including kidnappings, according to the BBC. Haq said at

Shi’ites vow to continue protest till El-Zakzaky is freed

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), known as Shiites Tuesday vowed to continue protesting for the release of its leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. “Even though heavily armed forces laid siege of brothers and sisters at Banex Plaza today, teargassing and shooting live rounds of ammunition, free EL-Zakzaky protests will continue nonstop unless our leader regains his freedom to go and tend for his seriously deteriorating health condition,” Shiites spokesman Abdullahi Muhammad Musa said. Musa, who spoke at the funeral ceremony of their dead members in Suleja, Niger State, said about 40 members of the   Shiites died during Monday’s protest in Abuja . “Yesterday, at Federal Secretariat, the bureaucratic seat of the Nigerian government, police gunned down close to forty protesters, wounded scores and arrested very many.” However, the police’s figure differs from the Shiites spokesman. The spokesperson for the movement, Abdullahi Musa, stated this on Tuesday in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters. He said the group does not carry arms as been insinuated by the government and security agencies. He warned the government to have a rethink before prescribing the movement as a terrorist group. Musa said, "Yes, we will come out to protest. Anybody that is planning to proscribe the movement is planning to put this country into crisis so that they will benefit because they have been benefiting from it.” He expla

Ministerial nominee: Atiku blasts Buhari, says list meant to divert attention from Shiites killings

Image
Paul Ibe, Spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nomination list sent to the Senate for approval. Ibe accused Buhari of deflecting the attention of the country from the clash between Shi’ite and police with the release of the ministerial list. He said Buhari used his 43-man ministerial list to deflect the narrative of the ‘avoidable’ death of about 13 persons during a shiites protest against the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. “Buhari releases ministerial list ostensibly to deflect the narrative of the avoidable deaths following the Shiites protest of Monday,” Ibe tweeted. The protest on Monday, July 22, claimed the life of a deputy police commissioner, Umar Usman, who was in charge of operations at the Federal Territory Police Command, a journalist with Channels Television Precious Owolabi and about 11 Shiites. President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, had confirmed that Buhari sent list of Ministerial n

Desmond Elliot Calls For Ban On Foreign Movies In Nigeria ( See Why)

Image
Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has said that the Federal government needs to ban the importation of foreign movies so that Nollywood can grow. In his opinion the actor cum politician believes that the importation of foreign content into the country is limiting the growth of the local contents. Nigerians however believe his proposal does not have a strong reasoning behind it as the stakeholders in the Nigerian movie industry could as well step-up their games to compete with the foreign contents. In his own reaction, a man identified as Bishi stated that it won’t be fair banning foreign contents in the country and sought to know what will happen to Nigerian contents internationally if same ban is meted on them. While reacting to Desmond Elliot, Mr. Henry mentioned that there is no local content in Nigeria as the contents pass the wrong messages to the audience. We bring the news to you as it comes.....

Do You Agree?? ‘ Fulani Herdsmen Are Not Criminals ’ – Miyetti Allah

Image
President of Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, has slammed Nigerians tagging Fulani herdsmen as criminals. According to him, herdsmen are being seen as criminals because of some politicians and enemies of the Fulani who are all about blackmailing the ethnic nationality and cause unnecessary confusion. According to Bodejo, all forms of criminal activities, such as kidnapping, armed robbery, shown on social media, to be perpetrated by the herdsmen are all lies. Bodejo went on to say that many take photos from accident scenes and then go on to claim herdsmen caused it. The Miyetti Allah leader went on to drag northern governments for “being insensitive” to the plight of Fulani herdsmen despite their contribution to the economy. He further stated that although he agrees that cattle-rearing is a personal business, the governments, however, have to look for ways to make business easy for the herdsmen. Tension between Dele Momodu, Fani-Kayode over Buhari escalates

Image
Ovation publisher Dele Momodu seems a marked man, and he’s just beginning to know it. For calling President Muhammadu Buhari father of the nation, and tweeting he is the only one that can stop the imminent implosion of Nigeria, the former presidential candidate got fanged by a PDP operative many have come to know as an attack dog. “Buhari is not the father of the nation: he is the father of the Fulani!” Femi Fani-Kayode countered in a tweet Sunday night. “Buhari cannot stop the imminent explosion because he is the cause of it! That wasn’t the first time Fani-Kayode would jump down the throat of the stocky publisher. Nor was it the first time Momodu, a loyalist of PDP’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, would be irritating the bartering ram Fani-Kayode—and, of course, his partner Reno Omokri—by deferring to Buhari in the slightest manner. Momodu was the first itchy finger to tweet that Atiku should call Buhari, and concede defeat shortly after INEC announced the winner and r

Why Nigerians are being killed in South Africa – Peter Obi

Image
Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February 23 presidential election, Peter Obi has condemned the incessant killings in Nigerians. He however noted that the targeting of Nigerians by the killers “has a lot to do with the way and manner we as a nation value and treat our own people”. “When we criminalize our people all the time, you don’t expect to get the desired respect and valuing from other people. “For Ghanaians to be listed among nationals that can enter South Africa without visa while Nigerians are being subjected to such extreme humiliation and killings, should tell a lot about how the global community regards us.” Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, Obi said that Nigerians should not be killed anywhere, more so in South Africa, given the huge sacrifices made by Nigeria, including the resources it deployed, to secure South Africa’s freedom. The former Anambra State Governor particularly recalled the personal efforts he made whe

Igbo community in Kano have warned against asking Fulani herdsmen living in the South to return to the north.

Making such calls are ethnic militia group like the outlawed IPOB, Biafra Youth Coalition of Nigeria, the Coalition of Northern Groups, the Ohaneze, the Afenifere, and the Northern Elder Forum. According to the Eze Ndigbo Kano, President General and Igbo Traditional Leader in the Diaspora, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe , if the Fulani come back what will happen to the southerners in the north? “…Our people will tell us to go back to the South. Is that what our forefathers wished to see us doing?” Ibekwe asked during a special dinner Kano Gov Abdullahi Ganduje held in his honour on Saturday night. “We are therefore rejecting such call coming from some quarters. Atiku vs Buhari: PDP still confident of victory – Peter Obi

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi, says the party still has the chances of taking over the reigns of power in the country. Obi, who spoke in Awka, Anambra State during the party’s stakeholders meeting, said all hope was not lost as the party had a good case at the tribunal, which was still on. He said, “Election in Nigeria is not easy, after the election, you have to still go to court and queue up, and that is where real money is spent in hiring lawyers, but I must assure you that all hope is not lost, and we are progressing steadily. “The man, who is there now, has contested for four times before he made it, and we are also confident that in no time, the right thing will be done,” Obi said in Igbo language. KANU TO TINUBU: For refusing to blame ‘Fulani herdsmen’ for Olakunrin’s murder, ‘you’ve disgraced the noble Yoruba ancestry’

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has frowned at the comment allegedly made by the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He asked the former Lagos State governor, who is said to be aspiring to become president after President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, to stop spreading falsehood against the Igbo race. A video trending on some media platforms had shown Tinubu, in an apparent bid to absolve Fulani herdsmen of culpability in the murder of Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, asked if Evans the kidnapper was also a Fulani herdsman. Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike also known as Evans, who hails from the South East and currently being prosecuted for his alleged crimes, has been adjudged by many to be one of the most dangerous kidnappers Nigeria has ever known. But Kanu, who felt Tinubu’s reference to Evans in a murder case herdsmen are being accused of, was to suggest Igbo or other trib

Timi Dakolo after policemen stormed his house

The Nigeria Police Force is confirming that its operatives today, 20th July, 2019 served official Invitation Letters on Bisola and Timi Dakolo. The invitation is sequel to an on-going police investigation touching on the wider and highly publicized case involving Bisola Dakolo, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and others. It is important however to note that a Police Invitation Letter is not synonymous with a Warrant of Arrest, and must not be construed to be one. Rather, it is a polite investigative tool used in eliciting information voluntarily from parties to aid police investigations. Members of the public should see it as a legitimate act in line with the constitutional mandate of the police, which among other things include the investigation of all complaints brought before it. The Inspector General of Police, IGP MA Adamu NPM, mni has appealed for calm, and is reassuring Nigerians that the Police Force under his watch will remain professional, impartial and unreservedly committed to
