I am not broke; neither did I quit music for hairdressing –African China

Image
For lovers of socially conscious songs, the question on their lips is, ‘where is African China?’ In the early 2000s, the singer used to be one of the few musicians that used their songs to criticise societal ills.                  At a time, it was reported that the government was unhappy with his songs and declared a manhunt for him. Fast forward to the present day and so little has been heard from the ‘crusader.’ In fact, the rumour going around town is that the singer had gone broke and dumped music to become a hairdresser. In a chat with Saturday Beats, African China debunked the rumours claiming that he was in the studio making new songs. He told Saturday Beats that he had already released a song titled, ‘Letter to Mr. President,’ and the song is already making waves. He said, “There is no atom of truth in the story making rounds that I went broke or I have quit music to become a hairdresser. I am a realist and there is no point lying. Homosexuals have taken over Nollywood, I’m not afraid to name them – Paul Obazele

The former President of the Association of Movie Producers in Nigeria, Paul Obazele, has claimed that gay and lesbian movie producers have taken over Nollywood.              Obazele who spoke with the Punch said that he tried to curtail homosexual activities in the Nigerian movie industry when he was still the president. He said, “I would not lie, we have gay producers and lesbians in the Nigerian entertainment industry and they are the people in control. Why are we hiding it? “When I was president of the Association of Movie Producers, I was against them. Why are we pretending that it does not happen? The same way it happens in Nollywood is the same way it happens in the medical field and other fields. “The truth be told , it happens across the board. If you mention the names of some producers, I would gladly tell you if they are gay or not ; they cannot do anything to me. If they bring a war to me, I would take it to their doorsteps. I do not give into gossips but I have got t

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday admitted that it was difficult for anybody to defend him or his government . Buhari who spoke while receiving members of the Buhari Media Support Organisation at the Presidential Villa , Abuja , however, did not disclose the reason why he believed it was difficult to defend him and his government . But he said members of the group , who have been defending him and his government , had been doing so as a sacrifice. This he said was because members of the opposition were in possession of what he described as incredible resources that the ruling party could not match . Buhari said, “ I don’t think I can thank you enough for your steadfastness under very difficult circumstances . It is not easy to defend this administration and more in particular to defend me . But your consistency has given me a lot of confidence. “I know yo

Image
P opular journalist, Nicholas Ibekwe has berated multiple-award winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie for claiming that Igbo people in Lagos are ashamed to speak the Igbo language.                          He said, “That Chimamanda’s statement àbout Igbo who grew up in Lagos being ashamed of being Igbo is the most unkind and thoughtless thing I have heard in a long time. I will explain. “It’s rude for someone who did not grow up in Lagos & who did not have to put up with the constant jeers of ‘Omo yibo” and who didn’t experience the frustration of explaining to ignorant people who think Igbo are an uncultured, ill-mannered people to make such a general statement. “Chimamanda got her fact skewed. Many “Lagos Igbo” are scared to speak the little Igbo they can speak not because they are ashamed of being Igbo, No. They do that to avoid the condescending jeers from their fellow Igbo. “I have never felt inadequate about being Igbo, many “Lagos Igbo” I know don’t feel that way.

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday described as degrading and completely unacceptable, a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerian youths should not contest for President in the 2019 election. The party described such a declaration as unpresidential, unlawful and discriminatory, adding that it further shows the disdain with which the President holds the youths, who he had earlier described as lazy and lovers of freebies. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said President Buhari and the APC had been using different strategies to frustrate the participation of youths and women in politics and governance. “We want Nigerians, particularly, the youths, to note that President Buhari’s position reflects the policy of his dysfunctional All Progressives Congress (APC) not to allow our youths the opportunity to aspire at top levels. “It is unimaginable that a President can sign a law and immediately s

However, it is only the beginning; there is still a lot of work ahead, towards ensuring that young people take full advantage of the opportunities provided not only by this constitutional amendment, but also through Nigeria’s boundless prospects. “You should inculcate the spirit of self help.
