UNILAG, UI, LASU, other ASSU branches vote for indefinite strike

Image
Barring any last minute change of heart, university lecturers in both federal and state universities will down tools to protest the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement reached with the Federal Government. Sunday Sun gathered that already, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) meeting is under way at its national secretariat, Abuja. Investigations revealed that the Federal Government is jittery about the planned industrial action by university lecturers but it’s not clear if the ministers of education and labour and productivity have reached out to leaders of ASUU to avert the strike. The NEC meeting, Sunday Sun  gathered, will deliberate on the outcome of the referendum by the various ASUU branches nationwide as directed at the last NEC meeting held at Nasarawa State University. Indications have emerged that majority of ASUU branches voted overwhelmingly for indefinite strike in an attempt to make the Federal Government i

Buhari While some Nigerians are agitated over the absence of President Muhammadu  Buhari since  May 7, he confessed on Saturday that his personal physician was keeping him back in London, even though his health has improved tremendously. “I wish to return home, but I have learnt to obey my  doctor‘s orders, rather than be the one issuing orders. Here, the  doctor is absolutely in charge,” he told a visiting delegation from Nigeria comprising his information managers at Abuja House in London. The media team who made the trip, included Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters,Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, and Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media. Anti-Igbo song: MASSOB urges Ndigbo in North to return home

TheMovement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) under the leadership of Comrade Uchenna Madu has restated its call for the return of Ndigbo living in the northern parts of the country following the quit notice by the coalition of Northern youths and the anti-Igbo song being circulated in the area.   The group alleged that Arewa youths would hold rally on October 1, this year, in Kano, saying “only God knows what they have in mind that day.”   The National Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr. Edeson Samuel, in a statement yesterday, urged Ndigbo living in Northern Nigeria to return home without further delay.   He said: “Your host region, the Northern Nigeria has given you quit notice; as if that is not enough, they have started a hate song. What does that mean? It simply means that those calling for peace are wasting their time. You are no more welcome in their land. This is the final call MASSOB will make in respect of Ndigbo leaving the North bec

OBSERVABLE FACT ABOUT BAIFA THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN.. By Douglas Anele In the last two series we have described, albeit briefly, some of the critical events that led to the formation of Nigeria as a result of British imperialism mostly executed through violence. We have also seen that Lord Lugard brought together the north and south to form a single economic and administrative unit for maximum economic exploitation of the colonial amalgam he created and for administrative convenience as well. A point overlooked by historians and often denied by revanchist apologists of caliphate colonialism is that although the interests of the indigenous peoples were not of primary consideration to the British when they decided to amalgamate the northern and southern Nigeria given the inherent exploitative logic of colonialism, Lugard and his cohorts, for reasons stated earlier, also intended to use resources from the south to develop the north because they found the latter more amenable to col

THE OBSERVABLE FACT ABOUT BIAFRA THE LAND OF THE SINING SUN By Douglas Anele The Fulani jihadists moved southwards into Ilorin at a time when Oyo Empire was disintegrating. Thus, the conflict between the Alaafin and Afonja, the kakanfo or General of the Oyo army and governor of Ilorin, was exploited by a Fulani teacher Mallam Alimi, whose descendants established Fulani control over the area. Meanwhile, before the entire north was conquered by Lugard, events had made British occupation of Yorubaland a real possibility. The most crucial of these was the threat of French encroachment into Yorubaland. As a result, Lagos Colony, annexed by Britain in 1861, signed a treaty with the Alaafin of Oyo in 1888 that placed all Yorubaland south of Ilorin under the control of the government in Logos, leading to the creation of the Colony and Protectorate of Lagos eight years later. Before then, in 1893, the Niger Coast Protectorate covering areas in the Niger Delta and extending inland to Lokoj

Image
The Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, has revealed that the Department of State Security Services, DSS, has ordered for the invitation of Arewa youths, over the quit order notice given to the Igbos, to vacate the North. Dambazau, who did not release further details about the invitation, however accused the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, of violating the bail conditions granted to him by the Federal High Court, Abuja. “The DSS has invited the Arewa youths for questioning and interrogation, for issuing an eviction notice to a tribe”, he said. The Minister added: “The issue is that yes Nnamdi Kanu violated bail conditions, but it is not time yet for him to go back to the court for trial. We have this assumption, but I think it is left for the court that gave those conditions to determine whether those conditions were violated or not. “If those conditions were violated, the court knows what to do. We cannot assume that those condi

Fayose said: ”I hope Osinbajo is seeing my Presidential posters for 2019, because I am in his territory. I am ready to disgrace the entire APC, and throw Buhari out of Aso Rock in 2019. My words are my bounds.” Post-Nigeria gathered that, with the type of reception Fayose received at the Eagle Square today, there is no doubt that he is determined to wrestle power from Buhari, in 2019. Today the black belter is no longer as vibrant as he was about a decade ago, rather he is making a head way into Nollywood and is gaining massive followership for his on screen exploits .So, is the former Storm Record sensation dumping music for acting ? He replied, “I don’t see why I should quit music for acting; I don’t even see why it should be considered. I see it as an expansion so I do not have to give one talent up for the other. They are both expressions of the talent God gave me so I cannot even choose which I love the most between acting and music but one thing is for sure; I am not quitting either of the two great talents that I have. “‘The Wedding Party’ was not my first stint with acting. I was actually in the award winning short film titled, ‘The Wages.’ I also featured in ‘Gidi Up,’ Season 2. I also featured in ‘Gbomo Gbomo Express’ and that was the proj

It accused Kanu and his IPOB of trying to cause anarchy in the country, calling on security operatives to deal decisively with the organization before it would plunge the country untold conflict. Charly boy said: I’m Too Old to Run for Political Officeq

Image
Singer and social commentator, Charles Oputa better known as Charly Boy, recently staged a protest with some well meaning Nigerians to challenge ailing President Muhammadu Buhari to either resume work or step down. The protest was not welcomed in some quarters as even the Nigerian Police did not help matters as they sprayed tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters in Abuja. Speaking with Punch Newspaper about his political stand, he was of the opinion that he is all out to motivate and inspire others about the country as he is too old to run for a political office. On why he cannot run for a political office, he said, “I cannot run but I can find someone who is qualified to do the job. I am too old for that. I have been privileged to meet some wonderful people in this country and I know it is doable. I am not wired to run for office, what I am able to do is to fix things, inspire and motivate people. I am a teacher and that is who I am.”
