Why I would’ve voted Oby Ezekwesili for president — Omawumi

Image
When former Minister of Education and presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACP, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, withdrew from the presidential race ahead of the forthcoming February 2019 general elections, many were disappointed because they believed in her ideals. One of such people is music diva, Omawumi Megbele, who spoke to Showtime on why she would have voted for her if she hadn’t withdrawn from the race.                                 Omawumi “I listened to her during the presidential debate; her views, the things she said struck me, not because she is a woman but because she is experienced. She was a former minister, she has always been involved and she always speaks out when things go wrong. She was the major propaganda of the ‘Bring back our girls’ campaign; so it’s not because she is a woman. It’s because I feel that of all of them contesting for presidency, she is the best person for the job. But that’s my opinion, everybody is entitled to one”,

Tinubu, Osinbajo under pressure

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to touch down in Lagos today to reclaim the electoral initiative in the country’s commercial capital that set the tone for his 2015 presidential victory. President Buhari’s victory in Lagos and the Southwest zone largely contributed to his emergence as president after three earlier futile attempts in 2003, 2007 and 2011. In all previous elections before 2015, he was either a distant second or third in the presidential elections in Lagos and Southwest. However, after forging a collaboration with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leading political actors from the region he, for the first time, triumphed in the zone, winning in all but one of the six Southwest states. As presidential candidate of the newly registered All Progressives Congress, APC, he polled a total of 2,433,193 votes to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with 1,821,416 votes. The only exception at that time was Ekiti where he lost to Jonathan.

Ezekwesili’s Group Endorses Atiku For President

Image
Following the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid by the Action Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr. Oby Ezekwesili’s Red Card Movement (RCM) has adopted Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its candidate for the February 16 presidential election. The development is coming few weeks after Ezekwesili announced that she was stepping down from her presidential race. The former Minister of Education was running for the presidency under the umbrella of the ACPN before quitting the race. The decision to quit the presidential race against her party’s wish led to ACPM’s endorsement of President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) some weeks ago. Consequently, the RCM, which was set up by Ezekwesili, adopted Atiku of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for president. The group however disclosed during a press conference in Abuja on Friday that the former minister had resigned her membership of the group before declaring her presiden

The country is once again tensed up with political activities as the general election is just a few days away. Attacks, mudslinging and outright propaganda have become rife in the polity. It is expected. It is peculiar with electioneering periods. There have been accusations, counter accusations and strong language usage against political opponents, especially between the two main opposition parties, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the country. Only a couple of days ago, February 6th to be precise, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai threw the entire country into haywire following his careless, reckless and self serving remark that foreigners who planned to intervene in the country’s election will return to their country in “body bags.” His words: “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags. We are waiting for the perso

I’m In Full Support Of Atiku-Obi Presidency – Jonathan

Image
Former president Goodluck Jonathan has said he’s in full support of the presidential bid of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Mr Peter Obi. Jonathan stated this in refutation of rumours making the rounds on social media that he was opposed to the emergence of Mr Obi as the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former president spoke in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Ike Eze, on Friday. The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a fake article circulating on line, to the effect that former President Jonathan has expressed misgivings over the emergence of Mr. Peter Obi as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “The publication which was first posted on Facebook last week, claimed that the former President stated this in “a fifteen pages key note address” delivered “during the official inauguration of his foundation for the less privileged in Burkins Hall Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.” “I

According to her husband, :“I got a call from a neighbour that my wife wanted me to come home because she was not feeling well. . When I got home, I met her in intense labour pains, so I decided to call a traditional birth attendant who can assist her with the labour, but my wife insisted that I should call her junior sister who lives nearby to attend to her. So I went to look for her junior sister who followed me to the house. On getting inside the room, her sister shouted and called me to come to the room. . When I got into the room, I saw my wife in a pool of blood with her stomach ripped open as result of a sharp r

Why it may be Atiku

With exactly a week to the Presidential elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is upbeat of his chances at the polls. For him and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of his party, the coast is finally clear to march steadily to Aso Rock, the nation’s seat of power. Across the land, Atiku’s message, anchored on his campaign blueprint of Getting Nigeria Working Again, tackles the central theme of job creation, opportunity for all, national cohesion and security. He dances his way to podiums mounted in various capitals to receive him alongside members of his campaign entourage with a single demand: vote PDP from top to bottom and from bottom to top to birth a new Nigeria where pain, anguish and gnashing of teeth will be a thing of the past. And after what appeared a semblance of crisis in the South-East geo-political zone; Atiku has in the past few weeks gained widespread acceptance, enough to make him smell the possibility of victor

2019 Election: Why would anyone vote for Buhari?

Image
With the 2019 presidential election seven days away, we should check Gen. Mohammadu Buhari’s promises during his 2015 campaign against his performance. That should determine if he deserves our votes again. Buhari’s promises: “I, Muhammadu Buhari, believe that our politics is broken. Our nation urgently needs fundamental political reform and improvement…. If you nominate me in December, 2014 and elect me in February 2015, my administration will: 1. Initiate action to amend the Nigerian Constitution with a view to devolving powers, duties, and responsibilities to states in order to entrench true Federalism; 2. Strengthen INEC to reduce, if possible, eliminate electoral malpractices….” Buhari promised to “Establish a well-trained, adequately equipped and goals driven Serious Crime Squad to combat insurgencies, kidnapping, armed robbery, ethno-religious and communal clashes, nationwide; Consult and amend the Constitution to enable states and local governments to create city, local go

Only God Can Punish Corrupt PDP Members" – Buhari

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has said only God can punish corrupt members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mr Buhari made the comment on Friday while playing host to some support groups who visited him at the presidential villa, Abuja. The president, who seeks a second term in office on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), accused the opposition party of looting and mismanaging the resources of the country while it held sway from 1999-2015. He promised to fight those he can and leave the rest to God. “Large scale abuse of trust, only God can give them punishment but those we can touch, we will get them prosecuted,” Buhari told his guests. “We have said properties confiscated should be sold and the money put into the treasury and we will use,” he added. He was silent on what the Almighty Being would do to PDP members perceived to be corrupt but has pitched their tents with the ruling party. His party has promised to forgive treasury looters once they joined t

Buhari vs Atiku: Arewa youths predict winner of presidential poll

Image
via The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has predicted the outcome of the 2019 presidential election. Speaking with Evritinnaija on Friday, President of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, said Nigerians were tired of the present political settings and have shown willingness to change leadership. According to him, even though the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, does not have money to buy crowd at campaign venues, Nigerians have shown that they wanted a better life than what is obtainable at the moment. Asked to predict the outcome of the February 16 presidential poll, Shettima, said, “Atiku is winning. We are sure because we have worked enough and people are now wiser. In a free and fair election, the present leader will not be a match for Atiku.” On whether the crowd attending Buhari’s rallies is intimidating to him, the youth leader added, “Did you see the crowd in Katsina yesterday? Were those people paid to come out? Does
