Image
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that only ‘Igbo traitors and saboteurs’ would attend the Ohanaeze summit slated for Awka, the Anabra State capital, on Monday, May 21. IPOB in a strong-worded press statement issued on Thursday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful, accused the Chief Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze of organising the event to appease the Federal Government, and vowed to scuttle the summit. It warned Igbo leaders and other eminent personalities who still cherish their integrity to stay away from the summit or be counted as part of those sabotaging Igbo interests for pecuniary gains. Powerful said: “We shall compile the names of all keynote speakers at the event to add to the register of all those that have over the years been betraying our people, especially the individuals that packaged and executed ‘Operation Python Dance’. IPOB accused Nwodo of protecting the interest of the Federal Government while pretending to advance the cause of Nd

Govs Seek to Take Over Fuel Subsidy Payments

Image
governors of the 36 states of the federation are canvassing a novel initiative that will see each state taking responsibility for subsidising petroleum products consumed within its territory. Arising from their discontent over the claim by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that it supplies a ridiculous 60 million litres of petrol daily to the domestic market, the governors are contending that instead of deducting the difference between the landing cost of petrol and the official pump price of the product before remitting net crude oil receipts to the Federation Account, every state should be responsible for paying its own subsidy according to its consumption. The push by the governors to take over the responsibility of paying subsidy payments on fuel in their respective states could prove to be a major solution to the inefficiency and graft that has characterised fuel imports and consumption in the country for decades. Other than the crippling impact fuel subsid

Why IPOB’s sit-at-home order will fail—Udegbunam

Image
ENUGU —AN expert in peace and conflict, human security and counter terrorism and a senior lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Dr Kingsley Udegbunam has said the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, proposed sit-at-home protests across the South East and South-South regions may not record total success in the midst of their proscription, their waning influence and the disappearance of Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB members Dr Udegbunam who spoke in a chat with journalists at Nsukka also cited the clash in ideology between IPOB and other pro-Biafra groups like the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, as reasons the planned sit-at-home will fail. “It is plausible for me to argue that it will hold but the level of success might not be like the last one. In fact, I foresee a situation where majority of Easterners will ignore the sit-at-home order because of the waning influence of IPOB. Again, Biafra Inde

Atiku support groups berate Buhari’s men, say they display ignorance of modern economy MAY 16, 2018

Image
The All-Atiku Support Group (AASG)has blamed the criticism by the Buhari Media Organisation of the proposal by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar               to privatise some aspects of the oil and gas sector as a display of poor knowledge about modern economic management. The AASG in a press statement signed by its Coordinator, Mr. Oladimeji Fabiyi said that the Buhari administration was least qualified to pass a remark about ideas geared towards modernising and optimising the operations of the Nigerian oil and gas sector, and indeed of any other sector of the economy. “What the BMO has done by its criticism of Atiku’s proposal is to further expose its lack of knowledge in the ways modern economies are run. As it is today, the NNPC is unprofitable, unwieldy and not accountable. Compared to its contemporaries like Petronas of Malaysia and Petrobras of Brazil which have since liberalised and modernised its operations, the NNPC still riddles in inefficiency and obvious lack of

Image
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said his faith is more important than his political position, The Cable reports. Osinbajo said this during a stakeholders meeting including Christian leaders in Benue State on Tuesday. The VP had been advised by one of the leaders to “exonerate yourself from this position.” Explaining what exactly the position was, the leader said: The point I’m trying to make is that a day is going to come when you, as the vice-president, will bear the brunt of the problem of injustice in our land, especially those perpetrated on smaller ethnic groups that have no one to fight for them. Osinbajo answered saying he would never give up his faith or refuse to stand up for his faith. He said: My Lord Bishop, you said you are not a politician, I am also not a politician. As a matter of fact, I’m also a priest and I’m a Christian, a born again Christian. Because I’m a born again Christian, my destiny is not determined by any man but by God who I s
