Ohanaeze To Buhari’s Aides: Open Up On President’s Condition

The Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Thursday called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides to explain to Nigerians the health condition of the president. In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary in Abakaliki, Comrade Uche Achi-Okpagha, Ohaneze insisted that President Buhari’s aides especially the Minister of Information Lai Mohammed owe the people of the country an explanation on the current health of the President. It, however, warned against wishing the President dead saying “God forbid that we should wish anybody death because death is like an identity card which we all have with its attendant expiry date”.

Ambode Declares Total War Against Kidnapping, Okays Death Penalty For Offenders

Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos State governor, on Wednesday signed into law the anti-kidnapping bill recently passed by the state House of Assembly, with a pledge to ensure its full implementation to eradicate kidnapping once and for all in the state. The Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping Law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment on kidnapping for ransom. The law also stipulates that where a victim dies in the course of kidnap, the suspect is liable on conviction to death. Governor Ambode, who spoke at the signing ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, said the spate of kidnapping in the state had gotten to a level that required decisive action from government, hence the need for the enactment of the law to send serious message to perpetrators of such heinous crime. He said aside the enactment of the law, the state government was also putting in place appropriate measures particularly in the schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent kidnapping and other security breach

Jonathan Calls For True, Fiscal Federalism

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says the only option that will solve the agitation in the Niger Delta is true and fiscal federalism as practiced in the United States from whom the country copied its presidential model of government. He said states should be allowed to exploit their natural resources as they deem fit and pay adequate taxes to the Federal Government, noting that this was also the position of the 2014 National Conference. He also linked religious killings in parts of the country in recent time to lack of political will to check impunity among citizens and adherents of certain religious sects. Police arrest man dehumanizing his employee in Lagos

The employer (office witheld), Engineer Wole Odunuga, was arrested after officers of Metro Police chased his vehicle, a white Toyota Hilux Van with the registration number SMK 707 CA, from Ketu/Ojota Flyover to 7 – Up before Toll gate. According to Promptnews, the officer had on Wednesday night at around 7:20 p.m.  Stopped the vehicle but the lone occupant defied the police order and sped off. After forcing the vehicle to a stop around 7 – Up, the officer were shocked to see a man, later identified as Daniel Dabis, with his legs and hands tied to his back and put at the back of the Hilux. During preliminary investigations, the driver of the vehicle claimed the victim stole his money and ran away from his Abuja home to Lagos, so he was transporting him back to Abuja before he was stopped by the Police. Police arrest 5 for planning attack on southern Kaduna

The Police in Kaduna State have arrested five suspects for allegedly planning to attack one of the remote areas of southern Kaduna. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abbey, made the disclosure while presenting the suspects to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna. Abbeh said the suspects were arrested on Thursday evening at Samaru Kataf in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly planning to attack one of the remote settlements in the area. “We recovered the following items from the suspects: one Golf car; two Ak-47 rifles; one locally made pistol; three live cartridges; five cell phones; assorted charms; a touch light and the sum of N86,000. “There has been series of arrest of criminals who are being prosecuted. “Priority is being paid to the crisis in southern Kaduna. Yesterday, there were reports that the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, placed a ban on the February 6th protest against the federal government in Lagos. Speaking exclusively to LIB this morning, the commissioner while clarifying his position on the issue said: "What the police in the command has done is to bring attention of the organizers of the protest to the provision of the constitution. The constitution does allow right to freedom of expression and right to peaceful assembly and the same constitution in section 45 also puts what is called restriction to the fundamental rights.. 2face foundation, owned by singer 2face Idibia who is part of the organizers of the February 6th nationwide protest, says they are in talks with the Lagos state police command and that the police hasn't told them they are banning the protest. Speaking exclusively to LIB this morning, 2face's manager and an executive of 2face foundation, Efe Omoroge, said the police has not informed them that the planned protest has been banned. "We have reached out to them. We are having conversations with them. I am not sure the news making the rounds about the protest is true. The feedback from the police authorities is quite different from that. I am not sure about the source of the police story and how true it is. The police has not told us they are banning the protest. VP Yemi Osinbajo says that the presidency can't stop the February 6th nationwide protest. Speaking through his senior special assistant-media and publicity, Laolu Akande, who was a guest on Channels TV, Osinbajo said Nigerians have the right to protest as it is their fundamental human rights. ''Presidency is not going to stop people from expressing their fundamental human rights. People have the right to protest. Whoever they want to support or oppose is their right. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, says the country is under siege of disinformation and fake news that can bring the country on her knees if not checked. The minister stated this on Friday in Abuja when he paid a working visit to the headquarters of DAAR Communication Plc, owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM. Popular ponzi scheme, MMM, has been fingered for the death of a 34-year-old mother of two, Mrs Gloria Samson in Makurdi, the Benue state capital. Metronaija reports that woman had taken loans from 4 different places in December and just few days after investing the money with hopes of getting massive returns, the controversial scheme announced the freeze in December.                      Gloria and her husband The woman was said to have left her home on December 28, 2016 to drown herself in River Benue and sadly, her body was discovered on January 2, 2017 by police. There are indications that more Nigerian entertainers will participate in the planned nationwide protest against the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in the country. Top music star, Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2face, last Monday, had called on Nigerians to join him in a nationwide protest against the ‘policies’ implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. The protest is slated to hold on the 5th of February. 2face, I-Go-Dye and Showkey 2face made this known on his Instagram page. Boko Haram destroyed over 900 churches in North – CAN

The youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern states, yesterday said over 900 churches have been lost to Boko haram terrorism in the North east. It therefore urged the Federal Government to rebuild the churches and also re-establish Nigeria Inter Religion Council (NIREC) with a view to curbing incessant religious violence in the country. Speaking after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Gusau, Zamfara State, the youth wing Chairman, Evangelist Musa Misal, noted that demolished churches that needed to be rebuilt were spread across Gombe,Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, among others.
