Biafra agitation won’t end soon –Ojukwu’s wife

Image
Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Spain and wife of late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has linked the unending agitation for the independent state of Biafra to the continued marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigerian federation. She decried what she termed the orchestrated effort by government institutions to supplant the Igbo, warning that they would rather make them more resilient in their clamour to opt out of Nigeria. Mrs. Ojukwu who spoke on the heels of the recently marked Biafra Day where the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) received substantial compliance in several parts of Igboland, thanked the people for being resolute. “For a long time now there has been an institutionalised attempt to suppress the memories of the Biafra War but the effect has only ended up like what happens when you throw a dead body into a pond. It will always rise to the surface. “For as long as Ndigbo remain marginalised in this nation; fo

There’s Bloody Islamisation Plot To Conquer, Enslave Igboland – Says ADF, A Pan-Igbo Group

There’s Bloody Islamisation Plot To Conquer, Enslave Igboland – Says ADF, A Pan-Igbo Group In a communiqué made available to SaharaReporters, the ADF said: “There is obvious agenda of a bloody Islamisation and jihad to conquer, occupy, take over and enslave Alaigbo and elsewhere in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” A pan-Igbo group, the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), has raised the alarm that there are subterranean plans by some powerful interests to conquer, occupy and enslave the Igbo people in Nigeria. The socio-cultural-political group at an emergency meeting of a “consultative caucus of concerned pan-Igbo” organizations on Friday said it met to deliberate on issues of “grave and urgent importance that threaten the peace, development and security situation in Alaigbo and elsewhere in the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. In a communiqué made available to SaharaReporters, the ADF said: “There is obvious agenda of a bloody Islamisation and jihad to conquer, occupy, take o

South east boils as Group raises alarm over 170 citizens detained over Biafra activities

NEWS South east boils as Group raises alarm over 170 citizens detained over Biafra A civil society and human rights group, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has  raised the alarm over the condition of 170 people from the South East zone  languishing in prison custody in Anambra and Enugu States over alleged pro-Biafra agitation. Board Chairman of Intersociety, Emeka Umeagbalasi, in a special press statement released in Onitsha, accused some police chiefs from the North currently working in the South East of indiscriminately arresting, framing and detaining hundreds of defenceless citizens of the region without trial and vindictively arraigning them for phantom capital offences in inappropriate courts to elongate their detention without trial.  The press statement signed by two lawyers, Obianuju Igboeli and Chidinma Udegbunam, also alleged that such actions by the police chiefs were all done outside the period stipulated for such offence. They

We will use traditional method to resist Fulani invasion

Image
Traditional rulers from the South-West region have vowed to protect their people and resist any form of invasion by suspected Fulani herdsmen, using the traditional way. The declaration came on the heels of a planned security summit by governors from the South-West, who met at the Ondo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Friday. A statement issued after the meeting quoted Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as saying, “There’s an urgent need to stem the growth of criminal activities and banditry in our region and, as leaders, we must be proactive in our approach to addressing the issue.” However, traditional rulers from Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states, all agreed that the time had come to adopt a traditional approach against criminals terrorising the region. In Ekiti State, the Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole, said, “We are all aware of the move of the Fulani to invade our land and up till now, we don’t know exactly why, but we know that it is already happening. We ha

African Independent Television (AIT), a TV station owned by DAAR Communications, has resumed operations. Evritinnaija checks confirmed that AIT can be viewed on DSTV Channel 253. On Thursday, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), suspended the operating licenses of AIT and Ray Power. However, earlier today, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted an order ex-parte for the maintenance of status quo pending the determination of a motion filed by DAAR Communications, in its suit challenging the action of the NBC. Delivering his ruling on Friday, Justice Inyang Ekwo, rejected two prayers by DAAR Communication, owners of the two stations, for restraining orders against the respondents – NBC, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture (FMIC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). DAAR Communications had, in the reliefs sought to restrain the respondents from interfering with its operations pending the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunct

Again Oshiomhole humiliated as court asks INEC to give Okorocha certificate of return

Image
Following an Abuja High Court ruling on Friday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no power to deprive Mr Rochas Okorocha the Certificate of Return as senator-elect, supporters of the immediate past governor of Imo State, are celebrating what they have described as their victory against the national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. According to some of the supporters led by Mr Azu Nkemakolam, “the victory was between an abriba taylor, Adams Oshiomhole, whose educational qualifications are controversies and our learned men and women in the judicial arm of government. Oshiomhole is driving the APC on a roller coaster to ruin and self-destruct and we are grateful to the judiciary for standing up again to correct what was clearly an anomaly. We are not in a Banana Republic where the ignorance of one man, powered by hard drugs will continue to shape our affairs as a party or people.” Nkemakolam added: “With this ruling, Osh

Obasanjo’s Remarks On Fulanisation/islamization: Frustration Or A Gimmick - Politics

Image
When an ordinary man (and by ordinary, I mean a common man or woman) peddles an inflammatory statement that is divisive or diversionary in nature, in most cases it is dismissed with the wave of a hand and usually goes unnoticed by most people as it may be borne out of frustration. However, when the same comment emanates from someone with significant clout, and who is generally considered an eminent statesman, it then calls for a critical review of the message and the messenger. Going by Nigeria’s nature characterised by a plurality of Languages, Ethnicities and Cultures, achieving unity is the most cherished value amongst lovers of such a nation-state. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently at the synod of the Anglican Communion in Oleh town Delta State, said that the violent acts of Boko Haram insurgents and Fulani herdsmen are no longer an issue of lack of education and lack of employment for our youths in Nigeria but an agenda he simply described as; “West African Fulanisat

ALLEGED THREAT TO TAKE IGBO LANDS: We are waiting for you, Ohanaeze tells Miyetti Allah

Image
Like the youth wing, the parent body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has also reacted to alleged threats by Miyetti Allah to forcefully take Igbo lands using killer herdsmen. The umbrella body of the Igbo socio-cultural organization said after it’s monthly meeting on Thursday that it was ready waiting for the herdsmen to carry out the alleged threat. The parent body of Ohanaeze reiterated the recent position of Ohanaeze youth wing, that Ndigbo will reactivate their local defence outfits in readiness against the alleged threat. Miyetti Allah has since denied having any plans to attack the South East part of Nigeria and forcefully take their lands. But in a communiqué signed by its president general, Nnia Nwodo, the Igbo group said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo has noted the assertion and denial of Miyetti Allah that the South East will soon boil. We are waiting for them.” Directing the people of the area to be vigilant Ohanaeze said they should wait for “our next directives after consultation with our po

He Is The HOPE Of The Reasonable Nigerians, Not Politically But From The Decomposing British Created Structure: GHANA PRESIDENT NANA AKUFO ADDO, WAS ASTONISHED WHEN HE SAW THE VIDEO OF THE IPOB LEADER NNAMDI KANU THAT APPEARED AND WENT VIRAL ONLINE. HE MADE A STATEMENT THAT “THERE IS SOMETHING DIVINE BEHIND THIS BOY” Furthermore, Nana Addo stated that “I will be punctually up and present to listen to the coming broadcast of the IPOB leader, that boy is the hope of every reasonable Nigerian most especially this time that the country is in a confused state with no remedy, Nnamdi Kanu is not a politicians but the hope of the region is on him to refabricate the decomposing structure created by the British”. Image
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has condemned the closure of AIT and RayPower FM by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC. NUJ, which urged NBC to do the needful by reopening the stations within 24-hours, stated that the “action portends grave danger for Free Press and Independent Media.” Recall that on Thursday, NBC suspended operations of Daar Communications, owners of AIT and RayPower FM over allegations of breaching Broadcasting Code. The statement read, “The Nigeria Union of Journalists is alarmed at the closure of AIT by the National Broadcasting Commission and believes that the action portends grave danger for Free Press and Independent Media. “Independent and Pluralistic Media in a democracy like Nigeria serve to promote democracy by their dissemination of authentic information and ensuring transparency in

Full details of why NBC shut down AIT, Ray Power

Image
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended the licence of Daar Communications for failure to abide by Nigerian Broadcasting Code. The Director-General of NBC, Malam Is’haq Modibbo-Kawu made this known on Thursday in Abuja. Kawu said over the last two years, NBC summoned the management of the company to address issues regarding the operations of AIT and Raypower, particularly Political Platform and Kakaaki. He explained that in one of its meetings with the company held on June 2, 2017, the commission expressed its disappointment with the way hate speech, divisive and inciting comments were applied in discussion of national issues in breach of the provisions of the NBC Act and Broadcast Code. According to Kawu, Daar Communications has over the years turned itself into a bad example of how a professional broadcast outfit should not be run, NAN reports. He said on June 6 AIT and Raypower embarked on use of inflammatory, divisive, inciting broadcasts, and media pro

How Atiku reacted to NBC’s shutdown of AIT, RayPower FM

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the indefinite shutting down of DAAR Communications outfits, AIT and Ray power FM by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC. Atiku said the shutting down of AIT and Ray power FM indicated that Nigeria was now under a dictatorship. In a tweet, the former Vice President wrote: “If, at this time, we stand by as the Press loses its independence, there will be little to differentiate us from a dictatorship. This should not happen. -AA.” The Director General of the NBC, Modibbo Kawu had announced the suspension of DAAR Communications Plc on Thursday evening while briefing journalists in Abuja. Kawu had accused AIT and Ray Power of airing a Presidential election documentary, a matter pending before a tribunal. He also explained that the inability of the company to pay its fees, the use of “divisive and inciting contents from the social media” among others was responsible to the ban.

Image
Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has blamed the likes of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W. F Kumuyi and men of God for the suspension of Daar Communication Plc, owners of AIT, RAY POWER license until further notice. Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Thursday suspended the license of Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, RAY POWER. Daar Communication Plc is owned by High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party. The Director-General of NBC, Modibbo Kawu, announced on Thursday that the action was taken for failure of the broadcasting station to abide by the broadcasting code. The offences listed by the NBC included the airing of a presidential election documentary by the AIT, a matter pending before a tribunal, the inability of the company to pay its fees, the use of “divisive and inciting contents from the Social Media” among others. AIT shutdown: I warned you people in 2015 but you ostracised me - Fani Kayode

Image
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation has also joined many Nigerians to shout against the recent shut down of AIT and Raypower. The National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) had shut down the media house indefinitely, for conducting themselves in a way that is against their ethics. Fani-Kayode reacting to the shut down said he had warned Nigerians both in 2015 and even in 2019 but he was “ostracised” for it. He added also while speaking via his Twitter handle on Thursday night, that the worst was yet to come. He said; AIT shut down! I warned Nigerians in 2015 and I was maligned and hated for it. I warned Nigerians in 2019 and I was ignored, despised and ostracised for it. Even now Nigerians still don’t know the nature of the monster that plagues and afflicts them. The worst is yet to come. We bring the news to you as it comes.....

We the Igbos only want one thing; to be treated fairly like other Nigerians. If Nigeria can be able to do this thing, you’ll see that the Igbos won’t complain of marginalisation again

Image
If you look closely in Nigeria today, if someone from the North commits an offence, he would be allowed to go free, the same applies to someone from the West, but if an Igbo commits same offence, unlike the rest of the two, he would be severely dealt with. The president of Nigerian comes from the North, his Vice is a Yoruba man, but the Igbo are nowhere to be found in any important position in this country. Presently, no one in Nigeria sleeps with their both eyes closed because of the menace of Boko Haram. This same Boko Haram was almost a thing of the past when an Igbo man was Chief of Army Staff. But even then, the Northerners were crying and complaining that their brothers (Boko Haram) were been killed and so they insisted that the then Chief of Army Staff, an Igbo man, must be removed. Now, Boko Haram insurgents that were almost chased out of the country are now the ones that are trying to chase Nigerians out and also carry out their Islamization agenda, but we won’t let tha

Apologise to Nigerians! – PDP comes for Buhari over branding Abuja residents a “necessary evil”

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has been heavily criticised by many Nigerians including the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for describing residents of the federal capital territory as “necessary evil”. In a statement, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP national spokesman, describing Abuja residents a “necessary evil’ for voting the PDP is completely “un-presidential”. The statement read: “President Buhari should note that he was not only rejected by FCT residents but also by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the states of the federation, who voted massively for the PDP, only for the Independent National Electoral Commission to subvert the will of the people in his favour; consequent upon which our party and presidential candidate have headed for the retrieval of this stolen mandate at the tribunal.” “The PDP criticises the president for stating that to make FCT secure is to make ‘myself secure and the Vice President’. “The party holds that it is the duty of the president to provide

Finally, Buhari Accepts Onnoghen’s Retirement

Image
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has accepted the retirement of ex-Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen. BOnnoghen had on April 4th sent his notice of retirement to President Muhammadu Buhari following his indictment by the National Judicial Council (NJC) around the same period. A source told Daily Independent, that the federal government has agreed to pay the former Chief Judge his full entitlement. The source said when the presidency sought the presence of the retired jurist in Abuja, especially after APC lost Zamfara wholesale to the PDP, family members told officials that Onnoghen was in the village in Cross River State since he has no house in Abuja. The source said presidency officials held two meetings with the family members of the retired jurist where they sought his help over these cases and also agreed to accept his notice of retirement and also give him all his entitlements. It would be recalled that the NJC had recommended

Bulkachuwa: Atiku To Take Decision On Election Tribunal

Image
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is weighing his options on how to get the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, to name her replacement in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. The Appeal Court, which is serving as the elections tribunal hearing the challenge of the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the February 23 presidential election, has been on hold since the recusal of Justice Bulkachuwa as the head of the panel. Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had filed an application demanding that Bulkachuwa step aside due to a perceived conflict of interest. Since stepping aside, the President of the Court of Appeal has failed to nominate her replacement at the tribunal, so that the hearing of the petition could continue. Statutorily, the five-man tribunal is expected to deliver its judgment 180 days from the day the petition is filed. Atiku and the PDP filed their petition against the emergence of Buhari on March

Popular Rapper, Falz Explains Why He Doesn ’t Go To Church Anymore

Image
The rapper and singer said he is not an atheist and that he believes in spirituality over religion while also making it known that he believes in the existence of God. He said: “I’m not an atheist. I believe there is a God. But I believe in spirituality over religion. I have nothing against the church or going to church. Everyone has the right to practice the religion they desire. It has been a while that I have been to church. It does not make me less of a Christian.” He added, “The reason is that I went to a few churches and, during sermons, I was put under undue pressure. There was a time that a pastor called me to the altar just to acknowledge my presence for being in church. “In my mind, I felt that the service was not about me. I felt that everybody was there to worship God, yet they were putting undue pressure on me. The pastor gave me the microphone to address the congregation and I was puzzled; what did he expect me to say to the congregation?” Speaking about the criti

Ihedioha Only Wants To Embezzle The N42. 5 Bn I Left Behind, He Does Not Have Any Plan Or Programme – Okorocha

Image
Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday, took a swipe at his successor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha. He said the governor has no programme for Imo people, but preparing the grounds towards squandering the N42.5 billion he, Okorocha, left in the state government’s coffers. A statement by Sam Onwuemeodo, Special Adviser, Media to the former governor, said: “On Tuesday, June 4, Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State said his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha operated from a bush bar in Government House, which he said was an eyesore and that is the reason he has decided to operate from outside at the moment. Okorocha “ He had earlier described the entire Government House as a decayed place. From all indications, Chief Ihedioha has no programme for Imo people. He appears stranded since May 29, when he took over. That is why he has never made any policy statement or any comment associated with governance. “He has been threatening fire and brimstone and trying to incite Imo people

The speech Buhari didn’t make

Image
Nigerians were left speechless on May 29 when after taking the oaths of office and allegiance, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo left the Eagle Square, the venue of the Presidential Inauguration ceremony without uttering a word. The President had nothing to say to Nigerians. He simply went back into his car and returned to the Presidential Villa. I thought that was an anti-climax. It was such a beautiful ceremony, what with the prayers, parades, gun salute and the symbolic retirement of the Defence flag and the national flag and the hoisting of new ones to signal the end of a term and the beginning of another. The Constitution does not outline how an inauguration ceremony should be conducted, except that in Nigeria’s case, a President, who has been elected for a first term, or re-elected for a second term in office, must take an oath of office. It would amount to an illegal extension of tenure to shift the day and date. Over the years, certain traditions h

An estimated 6.8 million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty in just 12 months, according to the World Poverty Clock. It was first revealed in June 2018 that Nigeria had overtaken India as the nation with the highest number of people living in extreme poverty across the world, with an estimated 86.9 million Nigerians measured to be living on less than $1.90 (N684) a day. According to available data courtesy of the World Poverty Clock, a web tool produced by World Data Lab, that figure has increased to 93.7 million in June 2019. 4.5 Nigerians slip into extreme poverty every minute with 47.7% of Nigeria's estimated 196.5 million people affected. This figure has risen from the 44.2% of the total population that was recorded in June 2018. In its assessment last year, the World Data Lab noted that the outlook for poverty alleviation in Ni

Imo: Ihedioha under fire for attacking Okorocha

Image
Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 election, Uche Nwosu, has declared that Governor Emeka Ihedioha has no plans for the State. Nwosu said this in his reaction to Ihedioha’s insistence that ex-Governor Rochas Okorocha did not properly hand over to him. “The action of the governor since he assumed office has showed that he is not serious and does not seem to have any cutout plan or blueprint for governance, except the desperation to grab power”, Nwosu to The Nation. “The people of Imo state did not vote for him to start chasing shadows. For the time he will stay as the governor, he should unfold his plans and programme for the people. No one is interested in excuses, what the people want is performance and nothing less. “The people want concrete statement on what the programmes of the government are, what the government intends to do and how it would deliver dividends of democracy to them and not embarking on a mission to pull down Rochas Okoro
