Federal High Court sitting in Kano has disqualified Mr. Sulaiman AbdulRahman Sumaila, as the duly elected representative of Sumaila/Takai federal constituency of Kano at the National Assembly. The presiding judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa, ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to AbdulRahman as he did not participate in the primary election of the party. The plaintiff in the suit, Shamsudeen Dambazau, had approached the court, praying the nullification of Sumaila’s recognition by INEC as duly elected as never participated in the primary election of the party. The Rivers state government stated that it would not participate in the Federal Government’s Ruga Settlements for herdsmen. In a statement signed by the permanent secretary, ministry of information, Paulinus Nsirim noted that the state has no land for the implementation of such a policy. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned the former Governor f Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose for alleged money laundering on Tuesday. However, Ola Olanipekun (SAN), the former governor’s counsel, prayed the judge to allow Fayose to travel abroad for medical treatment because of his failing health. The application for permission to travel abroad for treatment was subsequently granted by the court. Ohanaeze to conduct a referendum to merge all South-eastern states into a federation

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has proposed that the south-eastern states be merged as one federation. This demand was made by the youth wing of the group, in a statement on Monday by Arthur Obiora, the national youth leader. According to Obiora, there will be a referendum on August 8, for Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu to decide whether they would want to be merged into one federating unit. According to the statement, a bill tagged “A law of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states houses of assembly for the holding of a referendum on the proposal to federate Abia with Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo and constitute same into South-Eastern Region of Nigeria within the Federation of Nigeria” has been sent to the respective states’ houses of assembly for consideration. The organised labour have alerted Nigerians that plans were underway to embark on industrial action if the current state of affairs as regards the issue of consequential adjustment arising from the new national Minimum wage of N30,000 per month remains the same.
