South, Middle Belt leaders to NASS: Restructure, save Nigeria

Photos: Office of the President of the Senate.                    Leaders of the South and the Middle Belt on Thursday appealed to the National Assembly to save Nigeria, which they said was on the edge of a precipice. While calling on the legislature to drop partisan politics in handling the affairs of the country, the leaders asked that a national emergency be immediately declared. The elder statesmen made their positions on various issues affecting the country known when they met with the leadership of the Senate in Abuja on Thursday. The leaders were drawn from the South-West, South-South, South-East and North-Central.

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the United States of America has declared to support Nigeria in conducting credible polls. While speaking during the commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day organised by the Public Affairs Unit of the U.S. Consulate in Lagos Thursday, the United States Consul General, John Bray, pledged his government’s commitment to ensuring free, credible, peaceful and decent elections in Nigeria, come 2019.   Themed, "Media and the Transparency of the 2019 Elections" , Bray was among the speakers and panelists at the event that spoke extensively on the safety of journalists, transparency of the media, and electoral disputes pertaining to the forthcoming elections.
