NEWSNAFDAC destroys counterfeit products worth N650m in Kaduna

As part of its efforts towards eradicating fake drugs in the society, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) has destroyed goods worth N650 million at its Buruku dumpsite in Kaduna.  Speaking to newsmen shortly after the exercise in Kaduna Thursday, the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Christian Mojisola Adeyeye, said the exercise was to get rid of spurious NAFDAC regulated products from circulation in Nigeria. According to Prof Adeyeye, “The products being destroyed today are made of substandard and falsely labelled medicines, unwholesome foods products, costimetics and other counterrfeited products. “Drug counterfeiting is an act of economic sabotage and also terrorism against public health.” While commending the Federal Government over the ban on the use codeine syrup, the D.G. who was represented by the Acting Director, North-West Zone, Pharm. The Nigeria Police have reacted to the “purported kidnap” of Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district. Melaye was reportedly kidnapped Thursday morning at Gwagwalada by unknown gunmen when he was heading to Lokoja to attend a court session. THE National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has threatened to expel from the party, Minister of Labour and Employment and Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, for their failure to inaugurate boards of parastatals under their ministries. He said when expelled, they will be booted out of the federal cabinet as rebels as they will not have grounds to remain. Speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday after a meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, he said if the president could condone the indiscipline of ministers, he as a party boss, he cannot condone their disrespect for the party. The 37 lawmakers from the house of Representatives have renounced their APC membership and have moved to other parties causing a massive blow to the ruling party. 32 went on to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Of the five left, four joined forces with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The last lawmaker announced his renunciation of PDP but did not state which party he would be decamping to. The former APC reps announced their defection on Tuesday during the plenary session, 36 lawmakers of the 37 stated dissatisfaction with the division experienced at all levels of the APC as the reason for their defection. The Lagos state police command has reported that a 19 year old lady, Dorcas Adilewa, allegedly faked her own kidnapping in order to defraud her father. The teenager arranged for her own kidnap in collusion with a friend who provided a location and a means of contact to the supposed kidnap victim’s father. ADO-EKITI —WORKERS in Ekiti State, under the aegis of Ekiti State Organized Labour, yesterday, issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Ayo Fayose to pay all arrears of salaries and pensions of retirees. This was as the Governor-elect of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has advised the outgoing governor to devote the June 2018 federal allocation of N5.52 billion to the payment of salaries and other entitlements of workers.
