He concedes that it may be difficult for any candidate from North West and North East to compete or beat Buhari hands down, despite the

Ohanaeze: Igbos have legitimate reasons to be angry with Nigeria

Image
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Saturday said the people of South-east had legitimate reasons to be angry with Nigeria, citing undue proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Ohanaeze, a pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, hailed the release of Igbo women who were recently arrested and detained for protesting the disappearance of the IPOB Leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu in Owerri, Imo state last week. The President General of the organisation, Chief John Nwodo, expressed this concern in a statement yesterday, saying the IPOB leaders “are daring to speak out in the face of degradation, marginalization and inhuman treatment.” He, however, said Ohanaeze “is pleased that reason and respect for human rights prevailed and that a little over one hundred women who were exercising their fundamental human rights could not conceivably be any threat to peace in Imo State.” Nwodo, who is recuperating abroad from a mild surgery, warned Ndigbo against “shooting themselves on the foot no matter the prov

A Nigerian future without Buhari is possible

Image
This week must be one of the most humiliating ones for the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency . Here and there , he has had to endure insults and unpleasant observations from leaders of western countries he has spent valuable time trying to impress . First , it was the gratuitous insult from the United States president , Donald Trump, and then the British Prime Minister , Theresa May, piled it on when she used Nigeria as an exemplar of crushing poverty and retarded development . Nothing they have said about either Buhari or Nigeria is new or strange ; we already know what ails us. What no one seems to know yet is how to upend this lousy government and pave the way for a more productive , and forward -looking governance . From the feelers one gets by reading and talking to Nigerians, it seems that many have already done the calculations and resigned to the fate of another four years of Buhari . On this one, I want to remain optimistic that it is not over yet for Nigeria , and that a Buhari -
