President Muhammadu Buhari has promised Nigeria that the country will evolve from its current dwindling situation, Vanguard reports.
In a message to the 7th national prayer breakfast titled: “A tree and it’s fruits, is yours a blessing or a curse,” the president, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, said leaders in the country must strive to be a light to the people they lead.
“As leaders we must strive to be the light of the world, we must resist to talk about our current socio-economic situation with despondency.
“As for me, I have complete faith that Nigeria will emerge from this crisis strong, united, prosperous and secured.
“I believe that all these will come to fruition in the life time of this government, the life time of this executives, legislature and the judiciary,” Buhari said.
In a sermon, Reverend Abu Banko said politicians are models for all citizens, adding that they must be ready to give not steal from the nation.
He therefore, urged all public office holders, including civil servants, lawmakers and those in the executive, to lead Nigeria to its destiny.
However, this is not the first time the Buhari-led government will make this promise.
Earlier, the federal government described 2016 as a difficult year for Nigeria, even as it predicted things will get better as from 2017.
Senator Udo Udoma, the minister of Budget and National Planning, made this known while speaking with state House correspondents at the end of a meeting of the National Economic Council presided over by Vice president Yemi Osinbajo.
According to him, Nigeria can only be in recession if it records two quarters of negative growth. He said since the country had experienced negative growth in the first quarter, the country will be in technical recession if the second quarter which is still being expected is also negative.
Also, the finance minister Kemi Adeosun said Nigeria is technically in recession, but added that the nation has an incredibly bright future as long as the country remains disciplined.
