Let’s See The Results Of Your Job Creation Efforts, OBJ Tells FG
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday challenged the federal government to deliver on its pronouncements to improve the investment climate and job creation in the country.
Obasanjo said this moments before the plenary session of Day 2 of the 2016 Tony Elumelu Foundation Forum.
The former president was reacting to statements by Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, who had told the audience that government was turning the economy away from oil by among other initiatives encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs.
Mohammed had said that government was left with no choice but diversify the economy using agriculture and solid minerals as handles.
He highlighted cooperation with the Tony Elumelu Foundation to encourage entrepreneurs.
But in reaction to Mohammed’s statements, Obasanjo said, “it is good what you are doing but we want to see what you have done”.The former president emphasised the need to make doing business in Nigeria very easy.
He said, government needs to create a conducive environment, “invite them, induce them. If we are doing that, let us see the results”.

Obasanjo took a swipe at a situation where it takes two weeks or more to get a Nigerian visa, noting that more business friendly countries issue visas at the point of entry.
Obasanjo also wondered why there was no one-stop shop for business registration.
Earlier in the program, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda through his representative, Claire Akamanzi, told the audience that it takes a mere six hours to register a business in Rwanda.
Obasanjo commended the government of Abia state that announced how its shoe making entrepreneurs had recently got a deal to make booths for the military, saying it is the way to go.
He noted that the country has not taken the opportunities to help SMEs produce and sell outside our shores.
