Herdsmen Attacks: Benue Community Seeks Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Niger Delta, M/Belt Forum Supports

Makurdi – The Benue community has called on four regional socio-cultural organisations in the country among them Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Middle Belt Forum and people of the Niger Delta to join forces with it to defend its people against attacks by Fulani herdsmen.
The Benue community may have made the call following the hand of friendship extended to it by the regions under the aegis of South South/Middle Belt Forum in January.
The leaders of the South-South/Middle Belt Forum who were in the state last month to condole with the State Governor, Samuel Ortom had said the Benue people should call on them in time of need.
The 12 ethnic nationalities also threw their weight behind the call for restructuring of the the nation, especially regarding the call for state police.
Their decision is hinged on the basis that they have lost confidence in security agencies in the country including the Nigeria Police to defend its people against attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

They made their intentions known in a communiqué issued to newsmen at the end of their meeting convened by the Mzough U Tiv (MUT), Idoma National Forum and Omi Ny’Igede in Makurdi on Sunday.
The communiqué was signed by Daniel Ekah, Chairman, Communiqué Drafting Committee; Manasseh Mojekwu Esq, Igbo Community; Steve Alademhin, Secretary General, Yoruba Community and Dennis Denen Utsa, United Farmers Association, Kadarko Nasarawa state.
They said “We blame the Federal Government for her lukewarm approach to the killings of innocent citizens and we no longer have confidence in the Nigeria Police Force in handling of the massacre in Benue and other states, as they are extremely bias especially the Inspector General of Police (Ibrahim Idris).
