Police, Ortom accused of downplaying Fulani killings

A Fulani group known as Jonde Jam Fulani Youth Association yesterday accused the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and the Nigeria Police in the state of downplaying the killings of seven Fulani people at a motor park in Gboko.
The National President of the association, Saidu Maikano said in a press conference with selected journalists in Jos that it was unfortunate that the killing of the seven Fulani travelers had attracted little condemnation from Nigerians and government officials.

Maikano explained, “How can the police say the killing had no ethnic or religious undertone? Were they not killed because they were Fulani? Therefore the Tiv youths attacked and killed them simply because of their religion and ethnicity. So why are they always quick to point fingers at Fulani people but sceptical to mention other ethnic groups?  This tells us that there is a deep rooted hatred for the Fulani man and this conspiracy must stop for justice to prevail. When one or two Fulani people commit a crime, the government of Benue paints the entire Fulani as killers yet when a Tiv man is responsible for the killing, they claim it is the work of criminals.”
