Gunmen Kill Over 30 In Zamfara State

Armed Bandits Attack Zamfara Villages
Fresh attacks on Zamfara state by cattle rustlers and kidnapping gangs have resulted in the death of not less than 30 persons in the villages attacked, AFP reports.
Reports by the villagers, disclosed the armed bandits arrived on motorcycles, attacked five neighbouring rural villages in the Maradun district of the state, shooting indiscriminately and stealing livestock.
“We recovered 30 bodies from the attacks and we have so far buried 26, while four are being prepared for burial,” said Jabbi Labbo, a community leader in Gyadde, one of the villages attacked.
“Seven persons were killed in Sakkida, four in Farin Zare, eight in Orawa, seven in Gyadde and four in Sabon Gari,” he continued.
A resident of Orawa, Sule Mada, said seven other people were missing and presumed to have drowned in a nearby river, while trying to escape the attack.
“They attacked the villages simultaneously and took away a lot of cattle, sheep and goats,” Mada added.

However, confirming the attack, the state police in their report on the attack, said only three people were killed.
“Some villages in Maradun Local Government Area (LGA) were attacked by bandits yesterday and three people were killed,” the state police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu said.

Evritinnaiaja News reports that Zamfara had been attacked on several occasions in the past, forcing the State governor to cry out over the security situation in the state.
