Teenager Fakes Own Kidnap, Demands for N600, 000 as Ransom
The Lagos state police command has reported that a 19 year old lady, Dorcas Adilewa, allegedly faked her own kidnapping in order to defraud her father.
The teenager arranged for her own kidnap in collusion with a friend who provided a location and a means of contact to the supposed kidnap victim’s father.
The Police commissioner for Lagos state Police Commissioner confirmed to reporters that the suspects were arrested following a report made by the father of the supposed kidnap victim at the police station.
“On July 7 at about 5 p.m., Adilewa Taiwo of No. 3, Kosumi Lane, Bello-Ketu, Lagos, reported at Ketu Police Station that he received a call from phone number 09057432362. He was told that his daughter, Dorcas Adilewa, was being held hostage and that if he does not want her killed, he should pay a ransom of N600,000 to secure her release”
The Police commissioner reiterated that the police started investigations immediately and used geo-location to locate where the call came from which led police to Ijebu-Igbo, in Ogun state.
“The O/C Anti-Kidnapping led his operatives to Ijebu-Igbo on July 12 and combed the area in search of the supposed victim till the following morning.” The police commissioner said.
He further explained that while the search was ongoing at Ijebu-Igbo, the location of the supposed kidnappers changed to Ikotun in Lagos and the search party had to move from Ijebu-Igbo to Ikotun in Lagos to rescue the victim.
“When the fake kidnappers realised that the Police were closing in on them, the supposed victim decided to call the complainant to inform him that she has been released, after he had deposited the sum of N8,000 naira in her UBA account number.”
The Police further reported that the teenager had confessed to planning the whole kidnap scenario with her friend who according to her provided her with accommodation as well as the phone used in demanding for ransom.
The police have however confirmed that the teenager will be charged to court alongside her friends once investigations are complete.
