I’m ready for primary, says Ambode after meeting GAC

The Lagos State Governor , Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday expressed readiness to participate in Saturday ’s governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress during which the governorship candidate of the party would emerge .

It was gathered , however , that Ambode ’s declaration came after he met with the 22 - man Governor Advisory Committee , the highest decision -making body of the Lagos APC .
Although the outcome of the Tuesday meeting was still sketchy as of 6pm on Wednesday , a source said the governor was “ making progress towards realising his second term ambition ; but the coast is not clear yet .”
However, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan , on Wednesday , the governor reiterated his readiness for the direct primary in line with the choice of the Lagos APC and “ the validation given to the direct primary preference by the Governor’ s Advisory Council .”
The statement read in part , “ As our great party approaches Saturday , September 29 , 2018 , earmarked for the direct primary election to choose the candidate to fly our party ’ s governorship flag at the next general elections, I am happy to reiterate my commitment to participate in that process having procured and submitted my nomination form and having formally declared my intention to seek a second term to continue on the path of unprecedented growth and development that our state has witnessed since 2015 .”
The governor expressed his gratitude to the National Leader of the party , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ; party elders and executives ; GAC members , all APC members and Lagosians “ whose support , understanding and prayers have assisted me in no small measure in being used as an instrument through which our state has redefined the concept of greatness .”
The statement added that the governor approached the founding fathers and members of the party with a “ grateful heart” for their support .
It said Ambode promised to always welcome them with open arms , and pledged to pay a “ deeper attention to the concerns of this one , big family .”
The governor said a return of the party ’s ticket to him would guarantee the stability of the state’ s growing economy , ensure the continuation of the development it had witnessed over time and ensure that the opposition did not have any root in the state.
Ambode in the statement congratulated his co-contestants for the courage and commitment to the party and urged party faithfuls to come out en masse to vote peacefully in all the 20 local government areas and 245 wards where the election would take place .
