Boko Haram was formedby youths abandoned by politicians, accordingtoAlhaji Atiku Abubakar , Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDPAtikustated this in achatwith The Africa Reportwhile speakingon how he’ll counter the sect.
“I happento know howBoko Haram came into being. They were offshoots of political thuggery. Politiciansused those boys inBoko Haram to win electionsand then abandonedthem andthen there were nojobsfor them.
“It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself andI warned people.
“It’s goingto be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve militaryaction”, he said.
On the incessant herders/ farmers clashesandcattle- rustling, Atiku declaredthat grazing reserves was the solution.
“In each province in the north, we used to have a grazing reserve. During the season, the cattle are inthe reserves.
“When it isoff-season when farmers wouldhave cultivated all their crops, then the cattle move out to the areas where the farmers have cultivated, allowing the grassin the grazing reserves to grow. These grazing reserveshave beenabandoned overthe years.
On thefate of theleader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu and former NationalSecurity Adviser, Sambo Dasuki Atiku noted thatthe rule of lawmust berespected.
His words: “ I don’t want to be individualistic onthis issue. I reject any illegaldetention, any detention that isnot based onrule lawand order.
“Dasuki is beingdetained il legally. It isonly acourt that will say whetherheis guilty or not.”
On calls for secession by some South-East, Atiku hinted on “a conferenceto discuss reconstruction”
“I don’t thinkthere isany part of this country that wants to leave this country. Allthey want is fairness, equity and justice”, he added.
