Labour Party yesterday dissociated itself from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s meeting with 35 political parties and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ebere Ifendu, expressed concern over the inclusion of Labour Party, adding, “Of concern to us is the inclusion of the Labour party as part of the political parties in attendance. “As a party held in trust for the generality of the people of this great country, it is important for us to quickly debunk this falsehood and set the record straight. “We categorically declare our inclusion as false, Labour Party had no representatives in the said meeting and has no association with the coalition for Nigeria Movement in respect to the 2019 general elections. We are not part of any political merger. “We immediately request an amendment to the story as earlier written to reflect our party’s position.” Appealing to the medi...

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has asked the President Muhammadu administration to wake up to its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property of Nigerians across the country. The wake-up call, according to the Muslim body, became imperative following the killings by suspected herdsmen of villagers in the Bassa LGA, Plateau State. The National Publicity Secretary of the JNI, Dr. Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu, stated this in a statement in Kaduna on Monday. The religious body condemned the attack which left several people dead and over 150 houses destroyed. It cautioned security operatives against taking sides with any warring party in Plateau State and other parts of the country. The JNI also called on the authorities not to spare anyone culpable in the sundry attacks, adding that the attackers should be fished out and made to face the wrath of the law. The statement read in part, “The Jama...

Biafra Potential Super Power, Says Uwazuruike

Image
Awka – Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) and founder of Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), says the Biafra of his dreams will borrow a leaf from the domestic and foreign policies of great nations like the United States of America, Israel and Switzerland to be a great nation. With such, Biafra will become the emerging super power in Africa, he asserted. Uwazuruike lamented that the problem of Nigeria as a nation bordered on lack of trust. According to him, when there is no trust in a relationship, such relationship is finished. “When there is no trust, the resultant effect is failure of leadership at the centre,” he said. Uwazuruike claimed that the faulty amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates of Nigeria in 1914 had expired since January 2014, and with recent developments in the country, he predicted that Nigeria would break up into six republics before 2023. Uwazuruike spoke through Chr...

APC Crisis and Tinubu’s Mission Impossible

Image
About a year to the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has taken several steps towards putting his party, APC, in proper shape to come out victorious in the oncoming polls, again. After successfully torpedoing the PDP from power, the APC has been embroiled in a crisis as a result of the management failure of its leadership, which has left it disunited and fiercely factionalised. With the PDP taking a well-deserved rest and unable to function as an opposition party in an apparent fatigue from sixteen years of misrule, the APC has taken up the dual role of both the ruling and opposition party. In order to reverse what some concerned APC members consider an ugly trend, Buhari has finally stepped out of the shadows, having been severely criticised for shirking his responsibility of providing purposeful leadership to the ruling party. In a bid to unite the APC towards the next election, a move that may not be unconnected with his second term aspiration, Buhari is beginning ...

Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

Shettima Yerima, National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign. According to the youth leader, age and health have limited the performance of the president and there is need for him to give up leadership for a younger person. Speaking with SaharaTV, Yerima said the Buhari-led government had failed woefully in terms of security and employment, stressing that the country has been bleeding while the president goes about attending parties. He said, “The situation is really sad and uncalled for. It is a challenging period for the nation, no doubt. Bloodletting everywhere, coupled with poverty and unemployment. If the government was up and doing, the situation would have changed. “From my observations, I think the killings in the nation is a script people are working on to disunite Nigeria and they are trying to align it to a particular ethnic group or religion. Call them Fulani or whatever, a criminal is al...
